Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
