Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991 and professionally referred to by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female to sign to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. The label released her first EP, Pho, in October 2016 where she started getting noticed. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. The album was released in May of 2019. Ari Lennox uploaded her music to the internet in 2012, when she dropped her Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. She continued to upload her tracks online through 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. Sweat It is included on Omen's Elephant Eyes album which dropped on July 21 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew back then, wanted to have her perform on Rihanna reference. The announcement that she would be signed by Dreamville Records was made on the 8th of December. Backseat is a song that she recorded with Cozz to record the collaboration album Revenge of the Dreamers II. In October of 2016 she dropped her debut EP, Pho. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performer for J. Cole on his song Change in 2017, and appeared on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. In 2018, she performed in two songs, with the EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song and Bas's Icarus. The 16th of July, 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream on her first album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanied music video on the 5th of September. She released her second single, Grampa on November 9. Then, in November 2013, she released her debut album No One as well as Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released in her debut single the 26th of February, 2019, for her album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby performed with Cole in The Creed II sound track on the 16th of November. The track was released with a video uploaded to YouTube 20 February 2019 has been viewed over 3 million times within the first 7 days. In support of the track, she toured with 6LACK in December 2018 on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
